The fact that tables are related to the often requested html support isn't enough to close this bug - or did I miss something? I would like to see support for tables much more than being able to use different fonts or colors. A long time ago, tables were invented to structure a document and not to force parts of bitmaps to the correct place. Keeping that in mind, even those who dislike html mails in general might find such a feature useful. It could even be very helpful for writing tabular data in plain-text mode. At the moment, all you can do is to guess a sufficient indention level, press tab once or twice and hope for the best. It is surely more difficult to implement than support for different fonts, but as long as tables are not used for design purposes, it would be enough if all you could do with a table is to add or remove rows and columns. I don't think you missed anything significant. Currently KMail uses a QTextEdit based class for the composer editor. QTextEdit can display tables but doesn't seem to allow editing of them. (See the demo and textedit Qt examples). Inline images are a similar problem. It would be ideal if QTextEdit was improved to support these features. I'm waiting for that but am not sure if/when they will be implemented. Don. Hello, It's June 2006 (Kmail 1.9.1) and still nothing is happening about this... Could someone take look at it? greetings, b. Hello, Another wanted feature is mentioned here (Bug 128986: Can't Paste HTML-formatted text into Kmail mail editor window) - anyone is kindly invited to vote for this bug. Greetings, b. The fact that tables are related to the often requested > html support isn't enough to close this bug - or did I miss something? Actually, I think that tables are the main reason for having HTML mails. I don't care about colored text (I admit it, bold and italics are useful), but I find myself sending a lot of tabular data to other people that will find it more readable if just was well formatted. Yes, we can do it creating the table in OpenOffice and attaching the document, but I think that's something overkill for my needs. Also pasting the table from an HTML page or an OpenOffice document seems to work, but many times I got strange results in Kmail (maybe my fault), and I couldn't do anything to correct them, since Kmail can't edit tables. So please, let us create and edit tables in Kmail! Please check KMail2 and comment this bug report according to KMail2. Reassigning to kmail2 meanwhile This issue depends on Bug 287540. Support for html table implemented in 4.10 Yay! |
