If there's even a tiny error on any drive (internal, separate "/" and "home", external) KDE will freeze, incl. Gwenview (confirmed). Will not happen when you access photos on your external drive with suckless (nxiv). Thank you for the bug report. Unfortunately we were not able to get to it yet.
