SUMMARY
The transition to desktop is abrupt when the screen is unlocked, there is no fade effect. Can reproduce on X11 and Wayland.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. lock your screen
2. unlock your screen
3. 

OBSERVED RESULT
abrupt transition to desktop

EXPECTED RESULT
fade effect on unlocking

Can reproduce. I seem to recall that a KWin change broke this recently.

The fade was actually done by accident and caused flickering on Wayland but I agree it looked nicer on X.
