SUMMARY
On X11, an auto-hidden panel can be opened on a touchscreen or pen tablet by swiping down from the top/bottom of the screen. This doesn't work on Wayland, so auto-hidden panel are not accessible.

Correction: it works when using the finger on the touchscreen, but not with the stylus pen.

Screen edges filter needs to handle tablet events.
