Both images from Bug 445763 can be opened here under digiKam as well as Gwenview without any problems. None of the images have metadata errors. The digiKam version you used is a bit older, probably also your Gwenview version under Kubuntu. Your problem with Gwenview can be relevant of a dependency that application use internally, as libjpeg, and qtimageformat for image contents loading, or libexiv2 for metadata handling. As Maik said, the problem cannot be reproduced, and i confirm the same point here with my computer (version 20.12.0). digiKam team don't maintain Gwenview code, so opening a report to Gwenview project can help.
