sudo (I presume you meant that, I don't know of a sdo command) is not part of kde so marking upstream. Could it be that you'd authenticated to sudo within the previous 15 minutes (sudo caches credentials for a while so you don't have to keep entering your password) *** Bug 440700 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** By default, sudo does not display anything when you type, but it can be configured to do so ("pwfeedback").
As Paul indicates, this is neither a KDE nor a Kubuntu issue.
