The problem is known. Only digiKam-7.2.0 works on MacOS Big Sur. You can download it here:

Still no luck... It is a really old IMac (2014) I'll have to upgrade to a
new machine (as soon as I can afford it...)

Note the backward compatibility with MacOS is 10.13.

Use last digiKam 7.2.0 PKG published yesterday here :

https://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/7.2.0/

Here PKG work as expected on a Macbook pro 2012 running Catalina.

Stuck on 10.9.5, can't upgrade to even Catalina.

why? My old Macbook pro 2012 support Catalina at least. why your 2014 apple computer cannot do ?

Same result. Thanks for continuing to follow up though....

Like I said, I'll have to work on new hardware... I do love my 15 year old
imac pro... but one of these days, even this retired old cowboy will need a
new horse.

Stable digiKam 7.4.0 MacOS Package is published. Please check if problem is
reproducible.

digiKam is compatible with MacOS 10.13 or later. Previous version are not supported.
