We cannot determine why the Ubuntu package cannot find the camera without a debug output. You should report this problem to Ubuntu. Otherwise, under Ubuntu, the USB port is blocked by the desktop service. Read Bug 412255 and Bug 423392. Maik @openkartat Did you seen the previous comment from Maik ?
