SUMMARY
digikam sees only root folder

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install on Linux Mint MATE 20.04
2. Start digikam
3. Attempt to specify collection location

OBSERVED RESULT
Only the root folder can be selected for collection, import, etc.

EXPECTED RESULT
Should be able to see/select any folder in my user space.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux Mint 20.04 MATE (MATE v 1.24.0)
flatpak digikam 7.1.0 
Qt Version: 5.0.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
digikam runs as superuser. Dangerous! Should run with user permissions only.

This is a Debian package issue. With the AppImage everything is fine. DigiKam does not have to be used as a root user.
