SUMMARY
At the moment, dolphin does not support mouse gestures or click action. It would be a huge step in terms of usability and productivity, to be able to define small actions, such as: Double clicking on white space navigates one level up.
Or: Swiping left navigates back.

And so on...

Mouse gestures are already supported globally in khotkeys. Actions on empty space is tracked in Bug 307505. I'm hoping the maintainer will reconsider. :)
