Sounds like a bug in Firefox or how it's configured. Can you check in Firefox > Hamburger menu > Preferences > Applications > Search for "image"? If you run `xdg-mime query default image/jpeg` in terminal (e.g. Konsole), what does it return? (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > Sounds like a bug in Firefox or how it's configured. It returns org.kde.gwenview.desktop, but I'm assuming it's because I changed the mimeinfo.cache manually. > if I use Firefox to open up files
Does that mean after downloading an image file in Firefox, you click on (open) the file in Firefox's internal download manager and it opens in a new (separate) Firefox window/tab?
(If you explicitly use CTRL-O (or File > Open...) in Firefox to open the image, then it will be displayed in Firefox, which is expected.)
By the way, have you tried using a fresh Firefox profile (i.e. all Firefox settings reset to default, all extensions disabled) to see if the problem persists?
