I have 2 monitors. One uses an hdmi cable, the other a display port. I wanted to test if an hdmi cable worked, so I plugged it in the monitor that uses the display port, then changed within the monitor to use the hdmi signal. After checking the cable did work I switched it to display port source again. All of this shuffling caused the state of that monitor/screen to get completely messed up. The wallpaper was gone, and worse, the panel (the only panel I have) was gone. This was the case even after various reboots. I had to re-setup a new panel.
