Can you reproduce the crash in 4.3.0 prealpha (master)? Also see if turning off onion-skin on all layers and then saving prevents the crash. Can you please test whether the crash occurs on Krita Plus version? Setting to needsinfo. For the crashing .kra file provided by Josie and for another crashing animation provided by alyrah, here: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=139&t=163686, I can 'repair' them by opening in 4.2.7.1, turning onion skins off and then saving, after which they open ok in 4.2.8. If I then turn on onion skins in 4.2.8 and save, the resulting .kra file will crash krita 4.2.8. Another way to 'repair' them is to delete the Annotations folder in the .kra file as mentioned in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=414818 by Mikhail (though I realise that this could never be recommended). Krita Plus and the latest 4.3.0 prealpha do not crash with the original crashing files on Linux and Windows.
