I cannot reproduce this behavior with Dolphin 19.04. Do you use single click mode? Is the problem related to the selection markers (+ and - signs) that appear when hovering over a file (these can easily be turned off in the settings)? You're dead right. I wasn't aware of the feature of the selection marker.
