I think you talking about the “Audio Waveform Filter”. The filter was intended for clips which have the audio embedded inside. So it’s no more useful. To see the wave form on audio: hit CTR+SHIFT+, (comma) and tick under Timeline “Thumbnails”, “Audio” and “Separate Channels “ if needed. Then you see the waveform. Yes, I was talking about the Audio Waveform Filter... The Audio Waveform Filter doesn't work with audio embedded inside because Kdenlive 19.04 now separates audio from the video, which means I still can't use the Audio Waveform Filter. This can be done using the master effect. Click on Master on top of all tracks -> and drag/drop the "audio waveform filter" into the master effect window.
