allowing detailed view in folder view widget and also bigger fonts valid only in the widget will be a very good enhancement in Goals/Usability & Productivity
one of them for example is long file names will be better visible.
another is that people with view problems could have giant names visibles.

You can already make the icons huge" right-click on the desktop > Configure Desktop > Icons > Increase "Size" to the highest value.

You can also get more room for titles by increasing "Text Lines" on that page to a higher number.

The text is changed systemwide in System Settings > Fonts; if you want larger text on your desktop icons, it's a good bet that it's because you have bad eyesight or just prefer large text, so it makes sense to change that everywhere.

I do agree that the grid spacing should be customizable. That's tracked in Bug 403094

"You can already make the icons huge" right-click on the desktop > Configure Desktop > Icons > Increase "Size" to the highest value." yes, but the file name remain small and in many lines.
"You can also get more room for titles by increasing "Text Lines" on that page to a higher number." yes, but is terribly ugly when a name is long, it is very better to have in one or two long lines on the side of the icon like in detailed view.
"The text is changed systemwide in System Settings > Fonts; if you want larger text on your desktop icons, it's a good bet that it's because you have bad eyesight or just prefer large text, so it makes sense to change that everywhere." yes, a systemwide font dimension is of course ok, but, a special setting in folder view could be a good thing, my case was my old mother my old aunt that didn't used a computer at all, but was able to click on an icon of a movie on the desktop, but the title had to be bigger enough to be red and the icon too, so it was very unconfortable for me to use and setup the movies for them on the computer with this big icons and titles everywhere, and also it was for my sister that is avery simple user, so, if I only to move the movies on the desktop or on a folder view widget and they will appear with big icons and big font would be a good thing, for this I can prefere to have a special setting in folder view for font dimension valid only for that widget or desktop :-)
