Speed effect works not properly in the actual released versions. Will be completely re-written in the refactoring version. Have not really a work around. No. I'm add fades same way as all other effects. Only difference - i add button for "fade in" and "fade out" on instruments panel. What do you mean by “instruments panel“? The timeline toolbar? Please try with the actual Kdenlive AppImage version 18.12.0b as well. Run the Appimage from the terminal (press CTRL + ALT + T).
