I'm not sure whether to close this as after installing a couple of bits of server software (ssh and apache) then rebooting again, it seems to be remembering the settings. I don't know what's different about it now which is why I'm unsure. None of that should have been related at all. Before installing them, had you rebooted since upgrading to 5.14.1?
