This is more like a brainstorming idea than a true feature request.

I realized most of my tags contain either the people in the picture or the location where the picture was taken.

The people part is already taken care of, but I thought it would be a cool feature to scan those pictures with existing geographical coordinates, do reverse geocoding, and create a location tree (country, province/state, and city) that you could browse. This information could ideally be stored in the database, and it would complement the already existing Map panel (which could be renamed simply as "Places".

I checked, and there's an openstreetmap API that basically provides this information: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Nominatim#Reverse_Geocoding

You saw the reverse geolocation editor by digiKam? I think it's not exactly what you want, but you can also put the places tags in your images.

Nice, I didn't know about that tool.

In my case, I think it would be interesting not to write the location as tags (that should be the choice of the user). Just a way to browse picture geographically. Like a map, but in text form.

digiKam 7.0.0 stable release is now published and now available as FlatPak:

https://www.digikam.org/news/2020-07-19-7.0.0_release_announcement/

We need a fresh feedback on this file using this version.

Thanks in advance
