On openSUSE Leap 42.3, some UI fonts (e.g. times on the timeline, and text in popup dialog boxes) appear as unreadable symbols with all of:

- 18.04.2 rpms
- the official 18.04.1 AppImage
- the 18.08-beta17 AppImage

It's easier to explain with screenshots, so I'll just attach them.

What desktop environment is that? It looks like the Qt platform plugin it provides returns incorrect font information.
Comment 4 Adam Spiers 2018-08-27 09:12:54 UTC
It's XFCE with the OpenBox window manager.

Any suggestions of avenues for debugging I could explore?

Just found this Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1LizftoF0w. Unfortunately its I german.

I don't think that video helps, unfortunately. It's just a walk-through of the installation process on Manjaro, and doesn't exhibit the same bug. Thanks for the suggestion though.

If anyone knows how the fonts are chosen for the times on the timeline and text in popup dialogs, and which theming and font systems are involved in that choice, that would probably be helpful information. For example, why are only those fonts affected, and not the rest of the application?

This issue should not happen anymore with the current version.

Feel free to reopen this bug or create a new report if this is still happening with the latest version (https://kdenlive.org/en/download/)
