A ".hidden" file in a folder contains names (one per line) that a user wants hidden.

Even though the wikipedia page says this is something GNOME specific, KDE Dolphin (along with a lot of other file managers) support this "standard".

But Krusader doesn't - leading to a lot of cruft in some of my directories.

Respect .hidden files

Hide files and folders cointained in the .hidden file.

This is active when "Show Hidden Files" option is not selected.
