which version are you using? okular -v unspecified is not very useful Version is 1.3.0 Which kxmlgui version are you using? I don't know... how can I find out? Help->About Okular Libraries Tab -> KDE Frameworks version This tab says: ● KDE Frameworks 5.40.0 ● Qt 5.10.0 (built against 5.9.2) ● The xcb windowing system I hope this helps. Can you reproduce the same problem with other KDE software? like ark or kate? I have tried to reproduce the bug with kate, but I did not succeed. Then I went back to okular and I tried to repeat the situation I had in December- that was a fresh OpenSUSE Tumbleweed installation -, to no avail. I have tried these also in a different user session, but still, I am no more able to reproduce the former behavior. Maybe this is due to the system updates I made in between. I seemed to have reproduced this issue with Dolphin. When I remove the files in ".local/share/kxmlgui5/okular" the menus were restored. And the okular configuration (toolbars, annotations...) remains as before. Created attachment 156730 [details]

This same issue with Okular and "no text" appearing in the menu bar has been present for me for about a year under KDE neon user edition.
I kept thinking it would resolve itself with every new version of Plasma (now 5.27.1) or Okular (now 22.12.2), but it didn't.
I finally removed the files in ".local/share/kxmlgui5/okular" and I'm back to normal.
I'm attaching the old files from .local/share/kxmlgui5/okular.

After modifying toolbars ("Configure toolbars"), the okular menu is corrupt; several menu headings are called "No text" - instead of File, About, Settings. Also some items from these menus are lost, so I see, e.g., no (File|) Open, Open recent, nor (Settings|) Configure shortcuts, (About|) About Okular, About KDE. This behavior is the same if I reboot the system.
