does it work if you drag a video file from a file manager into the project bin ? I have seen crashes like you describe caused by the 'PREVIEW' feature of the file dialog widget. Maybe disabling preview can help

Thanks for the prompt answer!

No, I can't drag files, kdenlive seems to freeze the moment I open the
window to choose the files from.
Which is also the reason I'm not able to disable preview.
Unless there is another option, I didn't discover yet. I'm pretty new at
video editing programs and still looking into the various options I have.

Please try with the actual Kdenlive AppImage version 18.08.2
