This will be very useful for mailing lists messages which can be seen when time
permits. Otherwise, each new-mail notification causes a person to think that
some important mail has arrived (esp. at work) when in fact it is just a
mailing list.
Comment 5 Mitsu Hadeishi 2003-05-02 07:54:06 UTC
I've written code to patch KMail 1.5/KDE 3.1 to allow this --- right now it is hard coded to
the trash folder (i.e., only the trash folder suppresses new mail notification) but if
someone wants to write the UI code to add this as a flag to the folders, the rest of my
code is general. I.e., it just asks the folder whether it suppresses new mail notification
and if so it skips it when computing whether or not to do the new mail notification.

If anyone is interested in my code I will provide it to them.
Comment 6 Mitsu Hadeishi 2003-05-14 21:17:39 UTC
As noted above I ported this to KMail 1.5/KDE 3.1 (Red Hat 9) and if someone
wants the binary for RH9 I'd be happy to email it to them. I've also ported the
source to KMail HEAD, hopefully they will integrate this into KMail.

I agree with comment #4. Right now the notification feature is _totally_ useless to me (I'm on many
mailing lists). It would be nice (by which i mean actually useful) if I could use it for messages I've
filtered as important.

I understand if 3.2 has more important features that need adding.

Works for me (since years). Each filter rule can play a different sound. Just select
"Filter actions"
  ->"run command"
    ->"artsplay <filename> &" or "artsdsp mpg321 <filename> &".
Comment 9 Hrishikesh Mehendale 2003-07-23 05:19:31 UTC
Comment 4 thru 7 deal with the "non-intrusive" mail notification feature of
KMail. While it is certainly possible to add a filter that plays a different
sound, I may want or need sounds turned off (eg. late at night) or not have a
speaker to play the sounds on (eg at work)

Hi --- Right now I'm pretty swamped with other work and I haven't had time to incorporate the comments that Ingo made on my original patch for this bug. I do hope this feature gets added to KMail --- Ingo, are you planning to do this? I will try to get to this soon, but I hope some other developers will take my old patch and run with it at some point.

Replaced kkoch@kxsu.de with joerg@sharky-x.de due to bounces by reporter
Comment 12 cerebro84 2004-07-07 13:18:34 UTC
It has been added to kmail-cvs... Shouldn't this bug be closed?
Comment 13 Michael Jahn 2004-07-24 01:27:14 UTC
