The issues with plasmashell should be fixed in master and go into 5.8.4, would it be possible to check if those are at least resolved, then we can move on to the kscreen issue, which I think is underlying to this report. After reporting this bug I did some more extensive tests, and I've isolated two problems: Laptop lid configuration lost: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371681 KScreen doesn't recognise the new configuration after waking up notebook: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360058 I think we can close this bug and continue the conversation in the other two bug pages that are more specific.
