i'm making this bug a catchment basin for all "kcmkdm doesn't do this or that"
reports. the current design of kcontrol makes extending kcmkdm even further not
feasible, so it has to wait.

the usability team has decided, that the generic kdm control module shouldn't be
extended with options not relevant for typical users, as this only causes confusion.
a separate administration tool is being considered, but that's another story ...

Well IMHO this is a strange decision in terms of usability...

If a software has certain features, why not make them configurable all in one
place? e.g. by simply adding an xdmcp tab to the kcm.
There could still be a warning label saying that these options are not relevant
for single-user use.

Anyway this kcm requires root-access, so normal kde-desktop users in the will
never see them...

Right now people must edit rc files by hand, and this is not really
a usability plus...

still sucks

Ok, I follow the duplicate, but I haven't seen anything here concerning what I wish.
So I repost it here...

Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

It's possible to configure the state of the NumLock key under /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc in specifying "NumLock=On" under the "[X-*-Greeter]" section.

Unfortunately, under kcontrol, I never found a GUI component to switch it on and off.

I think a checkbox could be added under the first tab (Appearance) or under the last one (Commodities - Oh, I'm not sure of the tab names because I use a french version).

Strangely enough, when "NumLock=On" is activated under kdmrc, I lose the NumLock immediately after login in kdm, whereas the "numlock state when KDE starts" is setup as "leave state" under kcontrol/peripherials/keyboard.

kdm reached it's end of life with Plasma 4, whose last bugfix release was last August 2015, we are sorry we did not get to implement this wish.

We encourage you to try Plasma 5 and its recommended display manager SDDM and it's control module kcm_ssdm.

If you think your wish still applies to SDDM and/or kcm_ssdm please do not hesitate to add it.

Sorry again we could not process your wish.
