Tiny icons in system tray
Since updating to plasma 5.7 the icons in the system tray are so tiny, they are impossible to read (see attached screenshot from a 24" monitor). For me, in plasma 5.7.1 the system tray are huge and the system tray popup are small. My display: 14'' with 1920x1080 resolution Created attachment 100075 [details]

Indeed, it is very hard to identify the tiny icons for me as I am visually impaired (in KDE 4, the readability was much better). From an accessibility point of view, it would be highly desirable if there was an option to increase their size, or rather decrease the whitespace, i.e. padding/margin/border size.
Is there a possibility to do this manually, i.e. by changing some configuration file?
I found here: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=131736&sid=c2949ae23a5898dc5b401abd4977014a&start=30#p365350 that this can actually be configured now (not obvious, but anyway). In ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc I added a line itenSize=2 under the section [Containments][19][General] (It was not present in my case). The number in the [] might be different in your case. From my point of view, this could be closed or resolved as a duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364431. screenshot: tray itself is too small in the panel
I've just updated to Plasma 5.8 and now the tray and its icons are too small. In the screenshot you can see that the tray itself somehow sits in the middle of the panel height and has very tiny icons compared to the launcher widget. The icons in the tray popup are in the correct bigger size. I'd prefer to have the tray fill the whole height of the panel and the icon size like the one in the launcher - as it was before with Plasma 5.6... It is hard for me to recognize those tiny icons - apart from that the tray somehow looks misplaced...
The original problem here was that the icons in the system tray popup are too small. I do not see this problem in kde neon unstable. The icons appear quite OK. Wouldn't it make sense to track all icon size related issues in one bug? There is this bug, bug 370525 and bug 360333 that deal more or less with the same issue. Also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381794 looks related This bug is not about the System Tray on the panel, but rather about the pop-up with the title "Status & Notifications". Thomas, is this still an issue? To me, the Status & Notifications pop-up looks okay enough today. If we were to increase the icon size, that would have the effect of reducing the number of rows visible at once, so there would be a scrollbar more often. That seems to be the trade-off here. Taller rows would be more touch-friendly, but the whole system tray itself is not very touch-friendly in the first place, owing to the very small size of the individual icons. Icons are big enough now. |
