It does not require KDE PIM at all. It is purely plugin-based and can also show holidays and might get other providers in the future. Thanks for clarification. However, it also should be possible hide it to offer just a simple calendar view. Currently there is no option for this. The weekday and date is also shown in the tooltip and I can see that people might prefer the older more compact look.
