Ctrl-space and mouse drag is great. I feel it would be more intuitive, though, if the zoom was centered on the initial location of the cursor, not the center of the portion of canvas visible. Now you need to first zoom a bit, then pan and zoom in again to find yourself at the correct portion of the canvas.

Additionally, I'd prefer to see drag-zooming also work when moving the cursor left-to right. Now it only works on the up-down axis.
