It's not hidden I purposely put that message there. I never had the background popping up in the icon, it should be outside of the limits of the document. I'll check it. Created attachment 95048 [details]
edit-cut in Kate 15.08.2
Kate 15.08.2 (and any previous version I've used since I made the icon) only show the area that's set as the canvas in the document.

As you can see it's in fact outside of the area of the document.
This still happens in Plasma 5.5 beta with breeze-icons 5.16. Note that I can only reproduce it in my high-DPI laptop, in my desktop machine it doesn't happen. thanks for reporting the bug. the wrong icon was in action/24px.
