Description ghost53947 2015-08-16 15:55:03 UTC
Kmix allowed to set the master channel by just right clicking. It would be useful to have something similar in plasma-pa. Right now with plasma-pa and plasma-mediacenter/( settings -> audio) its is extremely hard to switch audio outputs. I need to turn my usb headphones off in the audio settings in order to use the Optical out. Since my pc is behind the screen its not practical to keep reaching over and unplugging it. Pulse audio volume control does help for this, however in a plasma only environment such as kaosx its not readily available and this makes it very tedious to change audio output.

Reproducible: Always

I think having the playback streams appear on the plasma popup and an easy way to connect them to the audio sinks would be a good solution. This is should be an easy operation (no right-click or hidden menu).
A visualization of the different hardware (headphones vs. loudspeakers in my case) would also be nice imo.

A possible visual soltuion could be a palsmanoid that you can use to swtich master output to. Kmix supports this in a way to select master channel from the system tray.

I like the new Audio Volume but I still keep kmix beside because of lack of this option.
Comment 4 Mathias Dietrich 2015-09-11 16:37:29 UTC
Please don't create another Plasmoid for switching the output source. Better integrate a simple output switch (like pavucontrol or the gnome audio settings has) into plasma-pa.
Comment 5 trigrab 2015-10-25 11:23:10 UTC
I'm missing this option too. Maybe it would be sufficient to have a link in context menu to the audio and video settings. The old version of plasma-pa had that too.

Even better would of course be an option on the plasmoid. But the link would be sufficient.
Comment 6 trigrab 2015-10-25 12:04:33 UTC
Maybe it would be best, to add kcm_phonon to the settings page.

Mockup of on-hover activation button in the style of plasma-nm

Here's what it would look like if this applet used the same style plasma-nm does for selecting a wireless network. I'd be happy with it. What do others think?
Comment 8 Arthur Moore 2015-11-07 02:46:11 UTC
Looks good.
I'm also an advocate of per app audio selection, but that would be part of the audio volume settings, not the widget.
Comment 9 Julien HENRY 2015-12-02 15:37:23 UTC
I also had to install kmix to switch between headset and laptop speaker/mic.
Comment 10 ray-ven 2016-01-16 11:35:08 UTC
nowadays u use bluetooth somethimes hdmi audio output and so on - please bring back on the fly audio switching - and not in a seperate app. Automatic switching shouldn't be so hard as well - "if bluetooth audio is added then play here" alike.
I have to stay with kmix till this is done :-(

Can a dev please chime in here? Is this something being worked on, or on any kind of schedule or list? Are there any problems?
Comment 12 andydecleyre 2016-03-22 21:35:26 UTC
Another possible design would be as the provided mockup, except that the un-hovered rows extend over the full width.

Can any dev comment on if this is something any of the devs care about or are doing anything about?
