Steps to Reproduce:
1. open Krita
2. select jped file in open dialog
3. open file

it is OS X 10.10.2 (sadly i can't select it in the submit form)

opening png is never a problem. tested with small und big photo jpeg.

Hm, that must be 10.10 problem -- it works for me with 10.9. It's strange, though, since we ship our own jpeg library, afair.

Don't have MacOS to check. Can only state that krita opens jpeg files correctly, both in kubuntu (ppa build) and debian testing/unstable (git build).

Does this happen with any jpeg file? I have tried a bunch on 10.9.5 without problems.
