The tray icon should unhide when packagekit detects new updates. Currently it only unhides after killing and restarting plasmashell

Reproducible: Always

Reopening since the bug this one was marked as a duplicate of was fixed but this one is not (as of 5.6.0)
Comment 3 Aleix Pol 2016-03-29 17:03:57 UTC
Uh true, I thought it was the dreaded Ubuntu bug.

I'll have to see what's going on, my impression is that it works here. How do you detect it?
Comment 4 Antonio Rojas 2016-03-29 17:11:23 UTC
Wait for packagekit to find new updates, or force it with 'pkcon get-updates' -> discover icon stays hidden

Restart plasmashell -> Discover icon is shown
Comment 5 Aleix Pol 2016-03-30 10:22:47 UTC
Can you check if calling "pkcon get-updates" also does the trick?
Comment 6 Antonio Rojas 2016-03-30 10:36:44 UTC
No, doesn't make any difference whether the updates are retrieved automatically or manually.
Comment 7 Aleix Pol 2016-03-31 10:45:57 UTC
I can reproduce, thanks.

It seems to me that this is an upstream issue. I monitored the PK dbus traffic and the UpdatesChanged signal is never emitted when the available updates list changes, only when updating packages with pkcon.
I have no idea if this is a bug or intended behavior, or if it only affects the alpm PK backend.

Thanks, keeping it open to remember.

Aleix, can we close this as RESOLVED UPSTREAM? If it's not our bug, it would be nice to get it out of the queue. :)

Good point, in fact I have the feeling it's working for me now. Can you confirm Alejandro?

Not sure who Alejandro is :) but this still doesn't work for me, PK 1.1.7 doesn't send any signal when new updates are available. But given that upstream doesn't seem to have much interest in fixing this I don't see the point of keeping this open...
