The problem was that a number of systems configuration modules that were expected by the Systems Settings application had not been installed. Installing those missing modules fixed the issue. Can we get a list of what needs to be installed so that we can fix the issue by hand until the bug is fixed for real? Hi, I was referred to this bug when another bug #351793 was closed as duplicate of this one. I never got the chance to even try systemsettings because I've been running into the problem with plasmashell (5.4). It crashed reproducibly when logging in from sddm and I was not able to use the desktop at all. This happened with the nvidia binary driver 340.76. When switching to nouveau the crash no longer occurred and plasmashell worked. However the system at a whole was totally unusable due to other graphics problems (especially when using an external monitor) - so I switched back to plasma 4 + nvidia binary driver from a backup. When logging in this was printed to .xsession-errors up to six time until plasmashell was no longer restarted: Failed to create OpenGL context for format QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags(), depthBufferSize 24, redBufferSize -1, greenBufferSize -1, blueBufferSize -1, alphaBufferSize 8, stencilBufferSize 8, samples -1, swapBehavior 2, swapInterval 1, profile 0) Please let me know if you need any other information. I might be able to try any patches, however this may take some time since I'm using Gentoo and need to compile everything from sources. Thank You very much. [KQuickAddons] QtQuickSettings::checkBackend() for fallback to software backend Fixes very annoying crashes of QtQuick KDE applications: ksmserver-logout-greeter, krunner (if not running before), and others occuring when the OpenGL driver stops being available (e.g. on upgrade). This issue often occurs after upgrading graphic drivers, preventing reboot, which in turn is needed for the drivers to work and not cause this crash. No changes are required in the above applications, as they all already use KQuickAddons::QtQuickSettings::init().
