Description Samuel 2015-02-25 07:22:37 UTC
Posting #26 in the URL lists a number of problems with Vivid and gives the error response to selecting Partition Manager from the Applications Menu. It does not give any window for password entry. The error window is titled "Sorry --- Plasma" and the first line in the window has "KDEInit could not launch ":

I can successfully start Partition Manager from the command line and it runs perfectly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. K Application Menu > System > KDE Partition Manager
2. Get an error message titled "Sorry --- Plasma"
3. Click OK and nothing happens

Actual Results:
KDE Partition is not started

Expected Results:
Should be presented with a request for the KdeSudo password and after entry it should start Partition Manager

The problem happens on Kubuntu 15.04 and it is running on an Asus R501V

Not a partition manager bug. This is the problem with kdesu. I was just told on #kubuntu-devel that it is already fixed in plasma 5.2.1.

I'm running plasma 5.2.1 and this bug is still affecting kubuntu 15.04...
Here are the details:
KDEInit could not launch '':
Could not open library '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkdeinit5_'.
Cannot load library /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkdeinit5_: (/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkdeinit5_.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
Comment 4 Harald Sitter 2015-03-06 16:19:31 UTC
Needs KDE frameworks 5.8 (due next week I think). If it continues to be an issue with kio 5.8 installed please comment again. I can however confirm that our integration builds of git master do not exhibit the issue. And I checked the source of kio 5.7, it doesn't have the fix. So I am reasonable confident that this will in fact be resolved once 5.8 lands.

Thank you for this prompt response. I can confirm that this bug is also
affecting a fresh kubuntu 15.04 beta1 install.

I was given a solution that fixes this problem. It is done by:

1. Right mouse click on the Applications Menu and select Edit Applications.....
2. Go to System > KDE Partition Manager.
3. Select Advanced and then un-check the box "Run as a different user"

Save the changes.

You will then find that the partition manager will run after entering the password in the graphic window.

SO THIS PROBLEM IS FIXED BY THE DEVELOPERS CHANGING THE APPLICATION MENU SETTING AS ABOVE.
