Please read bug 305654 comment #7 and maybe bug 305654 comment #11. Thanks a lot. /var/ was indeed nearly full. So looks like there was enough space to upgrade system, but it used almost all space and wasn't left free space for cache for that user. And workspace was customized a lot, including using different theme. But /home/ is different partition and there's plenty of space. I think correct behavior should be to don't try creating cache if there aren't enough free space and warn user about it. Because crash is really bad and then it's not easy to tell why it happened.
