Description Murz 2014-05-21 09:35:28 UTC
For managing favorite folders I actively use KDE "Places" item in Dolphin, file Open/Save dialog and same elements on other KDE software (for example, gwenview Places sidebar).

But Krusader miss support for KDE Places element, instead of this it have "Media" menu with list of system mount folders, and separate BookMan (bookmarks) menu and toolbar buttons.

Will be good if Krusader integrate KDE Places widget into it interface, good solution will be add Places items into "Media" list.

Or maybe will be good full replace Media menu to KDE Places, because KDE Places already contains by default all mounts, and user can manually hide unwanted mounts, and place Media in menu or other place.

Also I want to see KDE Places items always on screen for quick access (like in Dolphin), because I use it many times per day. So adding Places as Toolbar with buttons will be good too.

What do you think about described problem and solutions?

Reproducible: Always

Thinking about
* a "Places" toolbar
* a "Places" side bar tab added to the popup side panel

I would personally transfer from Krusader's bookmarks to global "Places" to have unified and shared bookmarks in Dolphin, open/close dialogs and Krusader.

Do you mean removal of Krusaders bookmarks and connect to Places? That's a good idea but I'd miss folder hierarchy of Krusader's bookmarks. Also, since KUrlNavigator integration right next to media button there is another one which shows Places. So personally I'd rather keep Krusader bookmarks.

I also vote for keep Krusader bookmarks and add KDE Places panel into media button.

Krusader bookmarks will definitely be kept. I was thinking that Dolphin has already the "Places" panel and we could use it. But when looking at the code, "Places" and bookmarks are actually the same thing (with a new name).

dolphin/src/panels/places/placesitemmodel.h:
>const QString file = QStandardPaths::writableLocation(QStandardPaths::GenericDataLocation) + "/user-places.xbel";
>m_bookmarkManager = KBookmarkManager::managerForExternalFile(file);

Instead, this would make it easy to include "Places" into the bookmarks. And for the bookmark toolbar its maybe possible to use
>konqueror/src/konqbookmarkbar.h
See Bug 96176.

Dolphin at now have only Places, full Bookmarks is still a feature request: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171366
There are 3 places when we can add Places:
- Media list button
- Bookman button root menu
- First item of Path line (that partly duplicate Media button)
I think best place will be "First item of Path line".

Places are visible in the URL navigator dropdown menu, although there is no keyboard shortcut for it.
