Thanks for the detailed bug report! The ps/pdf/dvi thumbnailer source is here: http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=kdegraphics-thumbnailers.git But I could not find a suitable bugzilla product. I hope that kio/thumbnail fits... I forgot to mention that another way to stop gs_* files pollution is open a different folder or close dolphin; this made me decide to file the bug as Dolphin matter. Dolphin kills all pending preview jobs in either of these cases. Christoph, not sure why you added me to the bug, i've nothing to do with the pdf thumbnailer. Oh, then I assumed wrong, excuse me. Is this still an issue with KDE Frameworks 5.47? If so, can you attach one or both of the problematic PDF files to the ticket? The links have gone dead.
