Description Amichai Rothman 2013-02-13 07:49:45 UTC
There are two ways that I know of to create a shortcut icon on the panel for launching an application: Either by right-clicking a program in the K-menu and selecting 'Add to panel', or by right-clicking an open task button in the task manager and selecting 'Show a launcher when not running'. Both have their uses, depending on whether it makes sense to open multiple instances of an application, or there's only one instance and it's a waste of space to keep the icon when the app is already running.

The bug is that the icons shown by these two methods have inconsistent sizes, which makes the list of icons look a bit ugly - the 'add to panel' icons are large (which I personally prefer), whereas the auto-launcher icons are small with lots of space around them. To the user it is not apparent that they come from two different settings - it looks like a single line of icons, as it should. Both types of icons should have the same size for a consistent and pleasant look. Even better would be if this size (for both of them) would be configurable, so those who like large icons can see all of them large, and those who like small icons can see all of them small.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In K-menu, right-click on an application and select 'Add to panel'.
2. Launch the application (either from K-menu or newly added panel icon).
3. Right-click on the application's button in task manager and select 'Show a launcher when not running'.

Actual Results:
The panel shows two different icons for launching the application, but the icons are of inconsistent sizes, which is unaesthetic.

Expected Results:
The icons should look the same no matter how they got there, since they serve the same purpose as far as the user is concerned, and it looks much better visually when icons are consistent in size

Confirmed, still happens in Plasma 5.
