I was browsing pictures in gwenview in fullscreen when kwin suddenly crashed once and restarted. i switched back to fullscreen and continued browsing. after exiting fullscreen, kwin crashed again.

The crash can be reproduced some of the time.

driver bug, most likely as well bug #252817 (*the* intel bug)
run "kcmshell4 kwincompositing", enter the third tab ("advanced") and uncheck "suspend compositing for fullscreen windows"

if this fixes it, it's indeed bug #252817 and we have a connection between that and the other bugs (so please inform us, thanks ;-)

Yes, disabling compositing for fullscreen fixed the error completely. I can trigger the crash every time with compositing on, but not when it's off no matter how hard i try. So I'm glad to say you now have the connection :-)

just to ensure:
you unchecked the box and the crashing stopped?! (because that actually means that fullscreen windows *are* composited ;-)

Yes. I'm unable to reproduce the crash now that the box is unchecked.
