Is this still a problem with 4.9.3 or newer? If so, what is the value of System Settings > Power Management -> Advanced Settings -> Never prevent an action on lid close Closing bug for lack of feedback. Please reopen the bug in case you are still able to reproduce the bug in KDE 4.10 Thanks ! I'm on a different laptop now, which is unaffected by this bug. However I am unable to adjust screen brightness on this laptop either by software or hardware keyboard shortcuts. Martin.
