there is option in menu in configure->account. You can select "check new mails at startup" Sorry it is there - the popup menue shows up, when you right klick the folder icon in the account area. May be a menuetext is missing in the german translation. (see attachment to comment 2): "Retrieval Options" <> "Empfangsoptionen" I don't understand. You don't have menu entry ? Don't know - is it a feature or is the menue text missing in the german version?
The english version of the handbook tells about a "Retrieval Option". Is that a menue or only the reference to the very very small arrow icon in the push buttons near the left border of the frame
