There appears to be no way to change the sortring at all these days. Maybe this should be closed? Sorting can be changed by clicking on a column header in the table of contacts in KAddressBook. I can still reproduce the bug on KDE SC 4.8.0. Of course, I just only had/have the name column visible, and this is absolutely valid.
