I think it's not just a KDE issue. It is also possible to crash the system resizing gnome-terminal - though you have to try a lot harder! lol. As a temporary work around, you can reduce the risk of total system seizure by disabling desktop effects. But you will still get nasty desktop artefacts. Seems the problem is due to some unfortunate interaction between the latest NVIDIA drivers and the latest XOrg x-windowing system. Lots of people are having the same problem:- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/760632 Sadly it seem there is no proper fix on the horizon and all the key players, NVIDIA, Xorg and Canonical all seem very silent on the matter. I can confirm this exact same problem on Kubuntu 11.04, KDE 4.6.2, nvidia driver 270.41.06. I encountered the same problem with fedora 15, KDE 4.6.3, nvidia driver 260.42.06. even when the desktop effects is disabled. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 227246 *** |
