Sentry Crash Report:

Description SiMH 2011-01-23 14:55:26 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.95)
OS: Linux

The new 'Launchers' feature in KDE 4.6 is great, the problem is that Launchers obey the "row count" and "force row settings"
of the task manager, meaning that for, deafult, on row settings it looks good: http://imagebin.org/133997
If you use however forced two rows in task manager, which I do, it looks terrible: http://imagebin.org/133996
If you can't see this, those two 'dots' are actually dolphin and smplayer icons. Complately unusable.

I think it should look more like that: http://imagebin.org/133998 meaning that launchers should not be affected by the row settings in task manager setup.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Just make at least two launchers (right click on any task in task manager, select advanced and "make a launcher") and then open task manager settings and check "force row settings" and select row count to 2.

Actual Results:
Your taskbar will look like this http://imagebin.org/133996

Expected Results:
It should look like this: http://imagebin.org/133998

i agree that it would make more sense to have the launchers in their own independent layout. a fair amount of work, but doable.

Is this still valid with KDE 4.8.3 or trunk?
Comment 4 Aaron J. Seigo 2012-05-22 10:58:45 UTC
yes, it is still valid though now at least they are "correctly" laid out (they aren't microscopic dots, but full-width buttons). however, this still isn't great as they take up way too much space as a result. they still need to be put into a separate layout. as this is being re-done in QML, i expect that will address the issue when it is complete.

Thanks for the fast feedback, setting version correctly.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Probably a similar issue here in Plasma 6.4.1: The launchers look like https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167154 (not my screenshot, found at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483525 ). The launcher icons are tiny, however waste screen real estate for no reason.
