[Comment from a bug triager] - Do you have some Python powered plasmoids in your desktop ? This may also be related to KIconLoader in kdelibs Regards *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 209263 *** [Comment from a bug triager] From bug 269249 (KDE SC 4.5.1): - What I was doing when the application crashed: Logging in the system with automatic login set for the main user. - Unusual behavior I noticed: Once the splash screen was complete, the system appeared as it was hung up for more than one minute, then the desktop appeared showing the bug report window. *** Bug 269249 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I'm also having the same problem. Here are the plasma apps that I have loaded: Application Launcher, Calendar, Comic Strip, Digital Clock, Folder View, gmail-plasmoid, Hardware Temperature, Luna, Microblogging, Network Monitor, Pager, Quick Access, Show Desktop, System Load Viewer, System Tray, Task Manager, Weather Forecast. [Comment from a bug triager] From bug 271349 (KDE SC 4.5.1): === - What I was doing when the application crashed: I have Kubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Latitude D820. I've turned off desktop effects. It auto logs in. I have about 11 plasma apps. - Unusual behavior I noticed: When I turn on my system and log in, I sometimes get a dark screen and the hard disk crunches a lot. It then comes up with a KDE Daemon request to open my wallet. The dialog is very laggy. After a long time I get a crash report. At that point KDE comes up and appears to work beautifully. === Here are the plasma apps that I have loaded: Application Launcher, Calendar, Comic Strip, Digital Clock, Folder View, gmail-plasmoid, Hardware Temperature, Luna, Microblogging, Network Monitor, Pager, Quick Access, Show Desktop, System Load Viewer, System Tray, Task Manager, Weather Forecast. === I tried cleaning up my /var/tmp/kdecache-USERNAME/kpc directory and will see if that helps. *** Bug 271349 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I tried cleaning up my /var/tmp/kdecache-USERNAME/kpc directory and the problem went away. That's a great workaround mentioned on another post. /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/kpc seems to indicate it would be a bug in KIconCache, which is still used in KIconLoader in the KDE Platform 4.5. It /was/ removed (with commit 03845b5adca8c5df5c3ea116f1ce01cd615f119c) in KDE Platform 4.6 however so you may want to retest with at least kdelibs 4.6. /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/kpc seems to indicate it would be a bug in KIconCache, which is still used in KIconLoader in the KDE Platform 4.5.
