This should be possible in both directions, but since I don't actually have GNOME installed I cannot test this. You can try logging out, start a clean GNOME session instead of KDE, and run "plasma-desktop" from a shell. It should give you the Plasma desktop running inside GNOME. On the reverse, something started the GNOME desktop while you were running the KDE session. This could be, for example, a specific file type that binds itself to the GNOME browser or desktop. You could ask on a GNOME related forum which command starts the desktop (i.e. the GNOME equivalent of KDE's "plasma-desktop" command) and run that command whenever you want to enjoy this "feature" again :) Reassigning to Plasma developers to check the Paste widget issue. Optionally this could be turned into a feature request for plasma-desktop to "embed" a GNOME desktop somehow, or simply by overriding it (per virtual desktop) as indicated in this bug report. Christoph! Thanks for your quick reply! What is awesome for me is this; I have six KDE virtual desktops and gnome is running right now only on one of them and not on the others. Furthermore, I can switch to whatever virtual desktop and there are no problems of stability or whatever despite the fact that one virtual desktop is so different than the other five! On the virtual desktop that runs gnome, I retain the effects and the functionality of the KDE (aka to tab apps etc) and the things that really change are the behavior of the right click and the prominence of the nautilus file manager. I enjoy to have a gui that in 5 out 6 virtual desktops have a KDE right click behavior and KDE functionalities and in 1 out of 6 virtual desktops has a gnome right click behavior and gnome functionalities. This is the combined and diverse functionality that I was dreaming since along time ago! I don't know if this can be activated providing a certain command in the konsole the way it has been implemented right-now in my computer and surely I will search more about the subject and I will give the feedback. Certainly, this is a feature that has to be implemented in the KDE environment. A feature that will please a lot of ex-gnomes like me. I choose KDE because of the myriad of choices that gives me and this could be another choice among others. Hello! This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
