Note: I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I am not using Kubuntu. It's very unfortunate that somebody at KDE decided to replace the best desktop environment--KDE 3.5--with a vastly inferior desktop environment (which will remain nameless). I wasn't a Gnome kind of guy; I am now. The best thing that KDE could do is to bring KDE 3.5 back and then take great care of it. When you make the best, you stick with it if you have any sense!!!!!!! Maybe the genius who thought that it was a GREAT idea to get rid of KDE 3.5 got his or her hands onto KNotes. The whole point of notes is that you can look at just the note or notes that you want to look at. Thus, there's absolutely NO POINT in allowing the end user (note maker) to ONLY open ALL the notes or NONE of the notes!!!!!!!!!! KNotes (as with KDE 3.5) was well nigh PERFECT to begin with. Now, sad to write, KNotes is going to crap, too. Doesn't ANYBODY have any SENSE anymore?!!!!! I can confirm that this is happening with xfce4 as well. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit. There is no dropdown with a left mouse click as in previous versions. Hi, Thank you very much for your comment!! With the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Gnome), a left mouse click on the KNotes panel icon does display a drop-down menu. Unfortunately, the menu does not have a list of the titles of the various KNotes. (There was never such a problem with openSUSE'sKNotes.) Thus, with the new KNotes left-click drop-down menu (32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 LTS; Gnome), I can't open only the KNote or KNotes that I want to open; I have to open all my KNotes at once ("Show All Notes") or open none of my KNotes! It's all or nothing!! Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit. There is no dropdown with a left mouse click as in previous versions. I'm seeing the same behavior on an OpenSuSE 11.3 RC1 system running KNotes Version 3.9 Using KDE Development Platform 4.4.90 (KDE 4.4.90 (KDE 4.5 RC1)) "release 2" Same behaviour of knotes (can only display all at once) in opensuse 11.3 rcs. But this started once updated to kde 4.5 betas from 4.4. I am seeing this behavior on debian sid Qt: 4.7.3 KDE Development Platform: 4.6.5 (4.6.5) KNotes: 3.9 If I create a new user or move ~/.kde directory to a new name, the annoying behavior goes away. But I am not about to rename my .kde directory and lose all my settings etc, so this is a show stopper for me. I have tried just renaming individual config or app directories that seemed appropriate, like knotesrc, ~/.kde/share/apps/knotes/, ~/.kde/share/apps/kontact/ , but to no avail. Update: Strangely, days with this problem, I noticed kded4 was not running after a notice when trying to configure something in "System Settings". Starting it solved the issue. Why kded4 seems to stop running from time to time I am not sure. Is this still valid with KDE 4.8.5 or later? Closing for lack of feedback, not reproducible with KDE 4.10 For me it was fixed for a minimum year of using latest versions of KDE. |
