Here is my problem. I use Dolphin to browse my Perl scripts and would like to open them with Kate (as defined in my preferences for Perl scripts) by clicking on them (or pressing Enter when selected).

I am not sure I can tell exactly when this changed, but it seems the current default action for the scripts is to run them instead of opening them. Note that this only happens for scripts with the executable flag set to on. Switching this flag on or off changes the way dolphin behaves.

I can understand that some users would prefer to run scripts from the GUI rather than using the konsole. I could certainly use that in some cases as well, but at the moment there is no shortcut or any other quick way to edit executable scripts. The only solution is to right-click on the file, go to "open with" and select you favourite application.

Would it be possible to allow the user to select the default behaviour and/or have a specific shortcut for opening/editing the scripts instead of running them?
