Description Wawrzyniec "Wawrzek" Niewodniczański 2010-03-13 13:33:47 UTC
Version:           2.2.2 (using 4.3.5 (KDE 4.3.5) "release 0", openSUSE 11.2)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.31.12-0.1-default

The sound is present in my system (i.e. Skype), it's also present in KDE (i.e. during login/logout or in Sound Test started from Amarok options), but there are no sound in Amarok. The program doesn't complain about lacking sound system, I can see the time progress but any sound.

Please advice any other information you might need.

I've just update to 2.2.90 - no change.

Oh and I raise the OpenSuse bug as it might be OS related issue: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=588160

Please install the necessary codecs and ask in the OpenSuSE forum, this is a configuration problem on your system, not an Amarok bug.

Dear Myriam,

Can you image that I had HAD installed all necessary codecs? Can you also image that I was using the very nice invention called OpenSuse website and googling to check any potential cause of problem? And finally writing your comment as a question would not hurt, would it, but would be much more polite ;)

Anyway, the most interesting it's that Amarok is working today. I haven't change anything...

I have to reopen the bug.

Amarok is soundless again. However, it doesn't happened every time. I tried to find a patter, but I couldn't ... I think it related to way KDE is communicated with sound card, but I have a sound in KDE...

BTW. I'm using currently version 2.3.0.

Usually this is a problem with the system configuration. Check the following stuff:

* are there other apps blocking the sound card? (lsof | grep snd). candidates: flash, skype, pulseaudio, etc
* are encessary channels muted?
* is phonon configured correctly?
* are all codecs installed?

And so on. Especially puleaudio is a source of maaaaaany problems there.

* are all codecs installed?
 Yes. Amarok even works - sometimes...

* are encessary channels muted?
 No. I can hear sound from other programs.

* is phonon configured correctly?
 Yes. There is a sound in KDE.

* And so on. Especially puleaudio is a source of maaaaaany problems there.
 I know, therefore I didn't installed it at all.

* are there other apps blocking the sound card? (lsof | grep snd). candidates:
flash, skype, pulseaudio, etc
 I've tried to figured out as this sound as possible trouble reason. However, it seems that Amarok sometimes work along flash+skype and sometime not...

Anyway I've upgraded KDE to 4.4 and see if it change anything.
